CBS News: Sharyl Attkisson's Computer Hacked 'Multiple Times'

Last month, CBS investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson said that she believed her computer had been compromised and that the matter was under investigation within CBS News. Through a series of tweets released Friday, Attkisson reported that an internal CBS investigation conducted by a cyber security firm confirmed that her computer has been hacked. Data was extracted and the investigation into the hacker is ongoing:

--

Here is a rundown of the tweets:

CBS Statement: A cyber security firm hired by CBS News has determined through forensic analysis that Sharyl Attkisson’s computer... ...was accessed by an unauthorized, external, unknown party on multiple occasions in late 2012."

CBS News statement: "Evidence suggests this party performed all access remotely using Attkisson’s accounts."

CBS News statement: "While no malicious code was found, forensic analysis revealed an intruder had executed commands...  ...that appeared to involve search and exfiltration of data."

CBS News statement: "This party also used sophisticated methods to remove all possible indications of unauthorized activity … and alter system times to cause further confusion. CBS News is taking steps to identify the responsible party and their method of access."

When she first reported on her suspicions last month, though she wouldn't speculate as to who might have hacked her, the information came just as the news broke about the Obama Justice Department seizing the phone and email records of James Rosen, a Fox News reporter.

Since the election of Barack Obama, the Emmy-award winning Attkisson has distinguished herself among her mainstream media colleagues as the rare journalist willing to investigate and report on the Obama administration. She has broken numerous stories on both the Fast and Furious and Benghazi scandals.
