Senator John McCain’s primary challenger, Dr. Kelli Ward, told MSNBC that John McCain is “falling down on the job,” adding, “He has gotten weak. He has gotten old.” Dr. Ward and McCain are squaring off in Arizona’s primary on Tuesday, August 30.

“John McCain is falling down on the job,” Dr. Ward said in the interview on Meet the Press Daily with Chuck Todd. “He has gotten weak. He has gotten old. I do want to wish him a happy birthday. He is going to be 80 on Monday, and I want to give him the best birthday present ever: the gift of retirement. ”

When Todd questioned whether attacking McCain’s age was fair, Dr. Ward responded, “Well, I mean, I’m a physician. I see the physiological changes that happen in normal aging in patients again and again and again over the last 20, 25 years. So I do know what happens to the body and the mind at the end of life.”

Ward continued the line of attack on her social media by running a poll:

Later in the evening, Ward doubled-down on the attack and brought up McCain’s “anger issues” during an interview with local news outside an event at the Diamondbacks game at Chase Field in Phoenix. Ward live-streamed the entire interview on her Facebook page:
