Google Maps to Begin Suggesting ‘Eco-Friendly’ Routes

Google’s Maps app will soon begin directing drivers along routes calculated to generate the lowest amount of carbon emissions based on traffic, road grade, and other factors. Unless users opt-out of the program, the Masters of the Universe will suggest the most “eco-friendly” route instead of the fastest.

China Generated over Half of the World’s Coal-Fired Power Last Year

A report published on Monday by Ember, a U.K-based energy and climate research organization, found that China generated 53% of the world’s coal-fired power in 2020. China was the only G20 nation to significantly increase its use of coal-fired power plants last year, building over three times as much coal capacity as the rest of the world combined.
