Fmr NFL Coach Brian Billick: Johnny Manziel ‘Reminds Me of That Affluenza Kid’

Tuesday on Jason Whitlock’s “House Party By the Bay” on Fox Sports 1, former Baltimore Ravens coach and Super Bowl champion Brian Billick reacted to the report that the Cleveland Browns plan to part ways with 2014 first-round draft pick Johnny Manziel by saying he reminds him of “affluenza kid,” Ethan Couch.

Couch was said in court to be a product of “affluenza” and was unable to link his bad behavior with consequences because of his parents teaching him that wealth buys privilege, and was sentenced to 10 years’ probation in 2013 for a drunk-driving wreck that killed four people.

Manziel, like Couch, comes from a wealthy family. The Heisman-winning quarterback has also consistently been in trouble with the law since being drafted, as well as taking a brief trip to rehab in 2015.

“Off the field he reminds me of that ‘affluenza kid,’” Billick said of “Johnny Football.” “He just doesn’t get it. And again, maybe the way he was raised he just doesn’t have the reference frame. For whatever it’s worth, I’ve seen nothing on the football field athletically, and the way he plays his game, to indicate he can last in the NFL.”
