CNN senior political commentator and former Obama adviser David Axelrod said Thursday on CNN’s “New Day” that Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton would be receiving more attention for her numerous controversies if this were a normal presidential campaign without Donald Trump, who Axelrod said continuously draws all of the attention to himself.

“Were this a normal campaign, it would probably be getting a lot more attention,” Axelrod said. “She has the good fortune of an opponent who on a daily basis lights himself on fire, and gets all the attention, and so some of these stories that may have been larger stories in a different kind of campaign aren’t getting that kind of attention.”
