Chicago Violence Kills Two, Wounds Eight

For the first time this season, Chicago experienced cool temperatures over the whole weekend, and while cooler temps don’t always coincide with fewer shootings, this weekend’s violence was relatively light with two killed and only eight wounded.

Compared to weeks before where upwards to a dozen had been killed and 20 or 30 wounded, this weekend’s toll was quite a bit lower than it has been all year.

The first death occurred on Friday evening when a 20-year-old was shot and killed in the Gresham neighborhood. A 16-year-old boy was also shot in the incident.

Early on Saturday morning another 20-year-old man was killed in an incident involving three other victims in the city’s West Garfield Park neighborhood.

This weekend’s toll brings 13 killed in October with 106 shot in the Windy City. Year to date, 294 have been shot and killed, with 2,079 total wounded.

The weekend was preceded by a gun battle on October 7 between a man from Indianapolis and officers of the U.S. Marshals service and the Chicago Police. The man was wounded but survived and was arrested. A Chicago Police Captain was wounded in the head during the fight.
