Watchdog: U.S. Still Paying Millions for Afghanistan ‘Ghost’ Students, Teachers

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has likely paid millions in American taxpayer funds for nonexistent schools, students, and teachers in Afghanistan, as part of America’s estimated $115-billion ongoing nation-building efforts in the war, reports the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR), a watchdog agency.

2 Houston Teachers Accused of Molesting Young Students

Teacher sexual misconduct continues to impact Texas schools. In Houston, officials charged a kindergarten teacher with molesting a five-year-old girl. Nearby, police continue to investigate accusations that a substitute teacher kissed and improperly touched first graders at another elementary school.

University of York Cancels International Men’s Day

According to The Yorker, the University of York has no plans this year to celebrate International Men’s Day on November 19th. This comes after a highly publicised incident last year when the university was forced to cancel the event under pressure from feminist academics and members of the York Student’s Union.

Homeschooling Rate Doubles in 21st Century

A survey conducted by the education department’s National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) finds an increase in the percentage of students of ages 5-17 who are homeschooled. In 1999, the estimated number of homeschoolers was 850,000. By 2012, the estimate was 1.8 million.
