Obama Concerned About Optics of 'Looking Small' Next to Military Leaders

Wednesday during President Barack Obama delivered remarks at MacDill Air Force Base, he joked that he didn’t want to “look small” standing next to U.S. Air Force Gen. Lloyd J. Austin, the Commander, U.S. Central Command who had just introduced the commander-in-chief.

Two weeks ago on NBC’s “Meet The Press,” after being criticized for golfing after the announcement that U.S. journalist James Foley had been beheaded by ISIS, the president claimed political theater was not something that always comes naturally to him.

Earlier in the summer when the president refused Gov. Rick Perry’s (T-TX) invitation to visit the holding facilities housing unaccompanied minors who illegally crossed the border the president claimed he did not enjoy “photo-ops.”
