Gary Sinise is known for his tireless efforts on behalf of the men and women of the U.S. Military.

Earlier this month, the man behind The Gary Sinise Foundation called upon some of his Hollywood friends to honor and entertain military members hurt protecting our freedoms.

Hollywood Salutes Heroes brought wounded veterans together along with stars like Tim Allen, Tom Hanks, Mykelti Williamson, Patricia Heaton, Ted Danson, James Caan, Tom Arnold, Clint Howard, Katharine McPhee, Greg Kinnear, Rob Lowe and Dean Cain.

Guests of the San Diego event, co sponsored by American Airlines and the USO, were treated like heroes while visiting both Disneyland Resorts and Paramount Pictures. The festivities even included a 20th anniversary screening of Forrest Gump, the inspiration for Sinise’s Lt. Dan Band.

“These types of trips are so important in the recovery of our wounded,” Sinise tells Big Hollywood. “Getting them out of the hospitals where they can do things to enjoy themselves means so much to them.”

Highlights from the three-day event will be broadcast during ABC’s Countdown to the Oscars special to air at 8 p.m. Feb. 27.
