Comedian Drew Carey Offers Reward to Solve Ohio ALS Ice Bucket Prank

Comedian Drew Carey has offered $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of those who dumped a bucket of urine and feces on an autistic Ohio boy fooled into thinking he was participating in the ALS ice bucket challenge.

Last week, a video posted to social media revealed the hateful trick on the autistic boy from Bay High School in Bay Village, Ohio, who thought he was participating in the ice bucket challenge. Instead of ice, the boy ended up covered in water, feces, urine, and spit.

On September 4, Mark Spaetzel, Bay Village police chief, said the incident was “reprehensible.”

“To me, it’s reprehensible … that these kids would take advantage of a vulnerable teenager,” Spaetzel said, vowing to apprehend those responsible.

Over the weekend, though, the community came to the boy’s support, attending a rally featuring the theme “No Hate in Bay.” Bay High graduate Elizabeth Sweeney and her sister, Sarah Sweeney, planned the rally.

Police reported that they are “working closely with the Bay Schools, analyzing the device used to record the video, interviewing witnesses, determining exactly where and when this occurred, and identifying those involved. Preliminary information suggests this occurred prior to the start of the school year at a home in Bay Village.”

But to help spur the police and others to find the individuals who made the video, comedian Drew Carey took to Twitter to offer a $10,000 reward for information leading to their apprehension.

Carey is famously a Buckeye State native, having been born in Cleveland, Ohio. Bay Village is only miles west of the great city on the lake, so this incident hits Carey close to home.
