'Dexter' Obsessed Teen Sentenced to Prison after Stabbing and Dismembering Girlfriend

British teenager Steven Miles, whom Surrey Police say is obsessed with fictional serial killer Dexter Morgan, was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Oct. 2 after he murdered and dismembered his 17-year-old girlfriend Elizabeth Rose Thomas, ABC News reports.

Seemingly inspired by his favorite television show Dexter, which follows the daily life of a seasoned serial killer, police arrested Miles in January on suspicion of murder after they discovered the victim’s body. Miles pleaded guilty to murder on Sept. 9.

According to officials, Miles stabbed Thomas, severed her limbs, and covered her remains in saran wrap. He attempted to clean up the crime scene, but was caught red-handed by a family member.

The 17-year-old suspect reportedly suffers from autism and claimed he had an alter ego named “Ed” who forced him to kill his girlfriend. Family members and close friends of Thomas described her as a pretty, funny, and kind young woman.

Aspiring filmmaker Mark Twitchell, also inspired by the popular crime show, was charged with first-degree murder in 2011. He reportedly purchased a flat screen television last year so he could continue to watch his favorite show Dexter from his prison cell.
