Hip-hop superstar and former Mitt Romney supporter Nicki Minaj’s older brother Jelani Maraj has been arrested on charges of first-degree rape and first-degree course of sexual conduct against a 12-year-old child, according to reports.
“Jelani Maraj, 37, of Baldwin, was arraigned Thursday on first-degree rape and first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child, according to online court and jail records. The child is 12, according to the source,” Newsday reports.
Minaj repeatedly mentioned Maraj in her songs. In “All Things Go,” she said, “And I know Jelani will always love me and I’ll always love him / And I’m just his little sister, not Nicki Minaj when I’m around him.”
Minaj caused a political firestorm in 2012 when she endorsed former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, singing, “I’m a Republican, voting for Mitt Romney, you lazy b*tches are f*cking up the economy.”
The Grammy-nominated singer has also been critical of the Obama administration.
Maraj, 37, was married in August. He was arraigned Thursday and released on $100,000 bail from East Meadow’s Nassau County jail.
