Comedian Amy Schumer shared a public service announcement Tuesday urging her social media followers to participate in National Voter Registration Day, if they want to escape the “nightmare” of Donald Trump’s presidency.
“The only way out of this nightmare!” Schumer captioned an Instagram snap promoting National Voter Registration Day, which was Tuesday, September 26. “Tell your friends. We need all of us. Let’s go!”
National Voter Registration Day is a “national holiday” that has been held each year since 2012. According to its website, 750,000 people registered to vote on Voter Registration Day in 2016.
Schumer tussled with Trump supporters during the 2016 presidential campaign.
During an October stand-up comedy show in Tampa, Florida, the 36-year-old Snatched star saw numerous fans (reports indicated more than 100) walk out after she began attacking Trump during her set.
At another show in New York City’s Madison Square Garden, Schumer mocked the Trump supporters who walked out on the Tampa show.
“After the show, I want you to know that I will go straight to a rehab facility that will teach me how to make all people happy,” Schumer read from a letter she had written to the people who walked out. “Both the rich, entitled white people who are gonna vote for him and the very poor people who’ve been tricked into it.”
Schumer — who visited the White House in January 2016 to listen to then-President Obama speak about gun control — also previously claimed she would leave the country if Trump were elected.
“My act will change because I will need to learn to speak Spanish. Because I will move to Spain or somewhere,” the actress-comedian said in an appearance on BBC’s Newsnight last year. “It’s beyond my comprehension if Trump won. It’s just too crazy.”
