BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) – A human rights group says a second family of Afghan asylum-seekers, including three children and their pregnant mother, has been deported to Serbia in the middle of the night.

The Hungarian Helsinki Committee said Wednesday that the deportation of a third Afghan family is on hold for now after they secured an interim ruling in their favor at the European Court of Human Rights.

The deportations began Tuesday night with the expulsion of a family of six through a gate on Hungary’s border fence.

Both expelled families were taken to a center for asylum-seekers in the northern Serbian city of Subotica.

Hungary, which greatly tightened asylum procedures last year, rejected the families’ asylum requests and gave them the choice of being expelled to Serbia or being flown back to Afghanistan.
