Farage Will Return to ‘Battle’ if Brexit ‘Transition Period’ Keeps UK Tied to EU

Former UKIP boss and Brexit leader Nigel Farage has said he will return to the “front lines” of politics if the government keeps the UK tied to European Union (EU) for a “transition period” after Brexit.

He insisted “we did not vote” for delays in Brexit and said he would have “no choice” but to return to “the frotn lines of battle” if a clean Brexit – free from EU courts, payments, and open borders – was not delivered in full.

The warning comes after the Tory government bowed to Remainer Chancellor Phillip Hammond’s demands for a “transition period”, keeping the UK tied to EU institutions for years after the two-year Article 50 divorce period.

Mr. Farage, arguably the most successful politician of his generation, slammed the “transition period” Monday, claiming a Brexit “betrayal” was now “official government policy”.

Responding Monday to a listener to his LBC radio show, asking: “Am I going to get engaged in politics again or stick to my radio show?” he replied:

“At the moment, I’m rather enjoying the radio show and the debate. It’s fun – leading a political party isn’t fun.”

“But, I stand by my pledge and my promise: If at the end of this process, we haven’t got the Brexit we wanted, we haven’t got the Brexit we deserved, I would have no choice, in those circumstances, but to head back to the frontline of battle.

“We’re not there yet,” he continued, “but today was very much a step – in my view – in the wrong direction.

“Frankly, it is not good enough, constantly being told we have to wait, and wait, and wait. Dither, delay, weak leadership, a rejection of our standing in the world (with all those countries that want to trade with us).

“And… we didn’t vote for this. We didn’t vote for ‘transitional arrangements’; didn’t vote for open borders; didn’t vote to give away our money; did not vote for the European Court of Justice to continue to have [a] say.

“We’re going to get very angry if this continues,” he blasted.

Dismissing the government’s claims that “transposal arrangements would be needed to protect businesses”, he said:

“The idea that business and trade only happens because we have a huge European Commission building in Brussels is a total, willful, misinterpretation of how the world has always worked.”
