‘Bridgerton’ spinoff about young Violet, Edmund in the works

Oct. 8 (UPI) — Netflix has a new Bridgerton spinoff in the works.

The streaming service announced Thursday that it is developing a limited series about the romance between a young Violet and Edmund Bridgerton, the parents of the eight Bridgerton siblings.

Netflix shared the news in the style of a letter from Lady Whistledown, the author of the show’s gossip newsletter.

“The love match that started it all shall soon be yours to see, dear reader. This author shall be share to inform you of any updates. Until then…” the post reads.

Ruth Gemmell plays an older Violet in the original Bridgerton, which opens with her already a mother of eight and Edmund (Rupert Evans) having died many years earlier.

Bridgerton executive producer Shonda Rhimes will co-write, showrun and executive produce the new spinoff with Nicholas Nardini. Rhimes previously created the show’s first spinoff, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.

Set in an alternate history Regency-era London, Bridgerton is based on the Julia Quinn book series of the same name. Filming is underway on Season 5, which will follow the romance between Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela (Masali Baduza).

Bridgerton was renewed for Season 6 in May 2025.
