#Stand4Life Tweetfest Aims to Bolster Texas Pro-Life Bill

Just as the pro-life movement used Twitter to force coverage of convicted murderer and abortionist Kermit Gosnell, supporters of the bill to increase abortion safety standards in Texas will conduct a “tweetfest” on Tuesday. 

The focus of the campaign will be to demonstrate that state Sen. Wendy Davis (D), who filibustered the bill last week, speaks neither for the majority of Texans nor the majority of American women.

Davis’s pink sneakers became a symbol for the institutional left and a progressive media focal point as she and an unruly mob of pro-abortion activists prevented a vote on the bill last week. With help from none other than President Barack Obama, who tweeted his support of Davis, and abortion giants like Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, Republicans did not get their vote in on time.

Davis and her supporters claimed that the bill, which would ban abortions of pain-capable children and demand abortion clinics maintain the same standards of care as other ambulatory surgery clinics, would force clinics to close and hurt women.

Tuesday’s #Stand4Life tweetfest will coincide with the hearing of HB2, formerly SB5, in the House State Affairs Committee, at noon.

Encouraged by its ability to stop the first vote on the pro-life bill last week, the institutional left hopes to use this special session, called by Gov. Rick Perry (R), as an opportunity to turn Texas blue and ensure a leftist agenda in the United States for years to come.

On Friday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), addressing the National Right to Life Convention in Austin, said support for Davis’s stance is overblown by the press:

[I]f you listen to the media, those rowdy protesters were adopting a popular view. Yet the simple reality is 62 percent of Texans oppose late-term abortions after 20 weeks. Over 80 percent of Americans oppose abortions in the third trimester. And one of the sad consequences of the Culture of Death we have seen is that the policies in this country are extreme.

There is a lot at stake here. The pro-life movement has an opportunity to come together and make a difference both for the lives of many unborn children and for the future of the nation.
