Graham: ‘Somebody Needs to Take the Shovel Out of Donald Trump’s Hands’

At an Atlantic Council event in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), a 2016 candidate for the Republican nomination, discussed Donald Trump’s rhetoric on immigration with CNN host Jake Tapper.

Graham suggested Trump was digging himself into a hole and needed to stop with his remarks and went on to added the GOP should embrace immigrants that are here illegally.

“The first rule of politics when you’re in a hole is stop digging,” Graham said. “I think somebody needs to take the shovel out of Donald Trump’s hands.”

“[I] don’t need a lecture from [Hillary Clinton] about illegal immigration,” he went on to say. “I don’t need a statement from Donald Trump that the border is broken. I know it. And I hope every Republican candidate would say the following: We disagree with Donald Trump in this rather — that most of the people here illegally are good, hard-working people, and if we’re not willing to say that as a party, we’re going to lose in 2016.”
