The first private email server that Hillary Clinton set up in her home was reportedly hacked.

During the height of the 2008 election, Hillary Clinton’s campaign email was compromised by someone sending out a Breitbart link to Clinton’s supporters.

On October 26, 2008, a mass email was sent from the account info@hillaryclinton.com, the main address for her discarded presidential campaign, with the subject line “I saw this story at breitbart.tv.”

“Hussein Obama will betray Israel,” the email read, alongside an accompanying Breitbart link. “He is a muslim we cannot trust.”

The gossip website Wonkette reported on the story with the headline “Hillaryclinton.com Email Hacked By Breitbart Fan.” Wonkette reported on sources in the Clinton camp who said they “don’t know what’s going on.” The fake email could have been a hack, but could also have been a case of “email spoofing,” in which a prankster uses a false email sender without actually gaining access to the email account in question.

The first private email server that Clinton set up in her home in Chappaqua, New York after she took the Secretary of State job was the server used by her 2008 presidential campaign. Only months later did Clinton switch to a different server, which is now in the hands of the Department of Justice and FBI.
