International Pressure on North Korea Increases After Missile Launched at Japan

Leaders around the world, prominently including U.S. President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, vowed to bring increased pressure to bear against North Korea after its reckless launch of a ballistic missile over Japanese territory on Monday afternoon. The question, as always, is exactly what kind of pressure can be applied, especially if China does not agree to punish its feral client regime more harshly.

U.S., Australia, Japan Call for Legally Binding South China Sea Code

At the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) meeting this weekend, Australia and Japan joined the United States in calling for a legally binding “code of conduct” for the South China Sea. More to the point, they want an internationally-recognized legal barrier to China’s conduct in the region.

Uber Driver Charged With Raping Australian Teen

An Uber driver was charged on Friday with raping a 16-year-old passenger in the eastern Australian city of Brisbane, the second driver from the ride-hailing service to be charged with sexually assaulting a passenger in the city in a week.
