Mexican Soldiers Rounded Up in Border City Corruption Probe

REYNOSA, Tamaulipas — Several members of the Mexican army who had been operating in this border city have been arrested by military police in an apparent corruption roundup.

The raid took place last Friday when members of the Mexican army military police carried out a surprise raid at the headquarters of the 8th Military Zone in this border city. The police force arrived at the headquarter’s and immediately disarmed several soldiers and seized their cell phones among other items. Some of the soldiers were then handcuffed and taken away. Mexican authorities have not released any information related to the raid.

Various sources consulted by Breitbart Texas revealed that the raid is part of an investigation into corruption within the military and police forces. In recent raids, Mexican authorities have found ledgers kept by the Gulf Cartel that document payments made to various military leaders and Mexican federal police officers.

The soldiers who had been arrested are likely to be questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.

As the raid was taking place, some of the soldiers managed to call their relatives who began to arrive at the military headquarters demanding answers as to the reasons for the arrests. Individuals at the scene claim that military authorities told them that it was all part of a training exercise taking place in San Fernando.

However, some of the relatives who spoke with Breitbart Texas claimed that their loved ones were beaten during the arrests. The group held a protest on Saturday and another one on Monday. They demanded that Colonel Hugo Pedraza Salazar provide information as to the arrests and that their loved ones be treated fairly. During Monday’s protest, some of the wives and relatives of the jailed soldiers demanded that Mexico’s Human Rights Commission look into their well-being.
