Inspector General: Liberal Groups Not Treated Like Tea Party Groups

On Monday, Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) of the House Appropriations Subcommittee asked inspector general J. Russell George if he had found that conservative groups had been targeted. George said there were 79 groups put to the side because they had “Tea Party, 9/12, and Patriot in the name of the group.” The vast majority of other organizations “had names so innocuous” they couldn’t tell whether they were conservative or liberal groups.

“This is something we are continuing to look at, but in the instance of the political activity matter, we did not uncover instances of groups that could be identified as liberal that were treated in the manner that these Tea Party cases were,” George stated.
