Violent Summer Continues in Rahm's Chicago with Six Shot Overnight

The summer spike in Chicago violent crime continues, as six more people were wounded in shootings over Thursday night and early Friday morning.

WLS reports all six shooting victims were males ranging from in age from 20 to 54 years old. Two men shot in the foot are reportedly in “good condition,” while the others are hospitalized and listed as “stable.”

While the city’s overall crime rate, including murders and shootings, is down from 2012, in most weeks this summer the murder rate has actually exceeded that of last year despite fewer overall shooting incidents.

The city’s most recent crime data portal shows week 29 again exceeded 2012’s week 29 by 11 percent, with 10 murders versus nine. For weeks 26-29, comprising mid June through mid July, 2013 has seen 50 murders compared to 2012’s 46.

The data portal’s historical comparison shows that although the murder rate for 2013 is 23 percent lower for the entire year so far in comparison to 2012, it has now surpassed 2011 by 2 percent with 227 murders.
