Alleged DACA Recipient Charged with Two Additional Lewd Acts with a Child

A man charged with child molestation and distribution of child pornography and allegedly granted executive amnesty under a 2012 executive action by President Barack Obama has been charged with two additional felony counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age.

In May Breitbart News reported on questions lodged with the Obama Administration from Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) regarding the alleged molester Edgar Covarrubias-Padilla’s immigration status. Whistleblowers alleged that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement knew of the child exploitation investigation of the camp counselor back in November 2014.

Covarrubias-Padilla, 27, worked as a Walden West science camp counselor where he was called “papa bear.” He was known as a comforter of homesick children, according to Santa Clara County education officials cited by KRON 4 News. Officials say he began volunteering in 2011 and was hired in 2013.

The alleged molestation victims in this case are boys now ages 9 and 11, Deputy District Attorney David Shabaglian was reported as stating. Covarrubias-Padilla was arrested May 7, around the time his DACA status had been approved.

“These allegations are deeply troubling because, if true, they suggest that DHS was aware for months or years that Mr. Covarrubias-Padilla posed a public safety threat to the children he was monitoring, yet took no action to revoke his DACA authorization,” read a portion of the Grassley letter from May.

Covarrubias-Padilla now faces nine felony counts including possession of over 600 child pornography images and manufacturing and distributing it,KRON reported.

County education officials noted in the report say Covarrubias-Padilla passed standard background checks including a fingerprint clearance.

In May 2010 the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors announced the city would join in lawsuits led by the Obama administration that challenged what the board called Arizona’s “anti-immigration” law, SB 1070. The law simply allowed law enforcement officers to require individuals detained for reasons other than immigration, to provide proof of U.S. residency. The Obama Administration won that case.

California adopted sanctuary city-enabling law in 2013 when the legislature passed the “Trust Act.” The Act inhibits enforcement of immigration law, preventing the holding of illegal aliens for possible deportation. A caveat exists for criminal aliens; however, a five time deported, six time illegal alien felon who chose sanctuary city San Francisco for its lax immigration policy, currently stands charged with the July 1 killing of 32-year-old Kate Steinle.
