Florida Gov. Rick Scott Says Obama Won’t Hand Over Refugee Data

Appearing on Fox News’ Fox & Friends, Florida Governor Rick Scott expressed concern over the recent conference call he took part in with the White House regarding the administration’s push to relocate Syrian refugees in the United States.

Scott joined more than half the country’s governors in opposing any Syrian refugees being brought to their respective states. He stated, “They are not going to pause. They couldn’t explain to me how the U.S. vetting process is any better than the French vetting process, even though we know one of the terrorists posed as a Syrian refugee.”

Scott said that after the phone call, he felt “more concerned” and less comforted after the White House told him he would not be allowed background check details of any of the refugees who would be brought to Florida. He said that they plan to do background checks, but they are not going to give him or any Florida law enforcement the information.

Scott has asked House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to refrain from using federal funds to relocate any Syrian refugee to Florida. “I am responsible for 20 million people’s safety, and over 100 million tourists a year,” he said.
