May 16 (UPI) — Elle King recently split from her husband a year after their secret marriage.
The 27-year-old singer confirmed her separation from Andrew Ferguson in an Instagram post Tuesday after quietly tying the knot in March 2016.
“We secretly got married 3 weeks after we met on 2/14/2016. It was and will forever be, one of the happiest days of my life,” she wrote. “This photo was taken today, 5/15/2017. A month after what should have been our big wedding ceremony.”
King announced April 15 that she had “skipped out” on her wedding to Ferguson, but didn’t say at the time that they were already legally married. She shared her heartbreak over the split in the new post this week.
“My heart is broken,” the star confessed. “My soul aches. I am lost. He is the greatest love of my life. He is my best friend. As we separate, and attempt to find our footing through life, all I can hope for us is that we both find happiness within ourselves.”
“I love you. You’ll always have my heart. You’ll always be my first husband,” she told Ferguson.
King, the daughter of comedian Rob Schneider, said on the Feb. 10 episode of Say Yes to the Dress that she first met Ferguson at her hotel in London. The couple instantly connected, with Ferguson moving to Los Angeles just two days later.
“It was like we’d known each other for 10 years. We hung out all night — it was my last day in London — and he was like, ‘You can’t go home,’” the star recalled. “He proposed 12 days after we met.”
