IRS Issues Statement on Discrimination Against Conservatives: Mistakes Not 'Political or Partisan'

On Friday morning, after the IRS’ Lori Lerner apologized for the agency’s targeted discrimination against conservative groups in 2012, the IRS released a statement. The statement itself obfuscated the problem with the IRS’ activities; instead of apologizing for the IRS’ discrimination problem, the statement apologized for misallocation of local versus federal resources, and then dishonestly claimed, “Mistakes were made initially, but there were in no way due to any political or partisan rationale.”

The IRS says they fixed the situation and now “have made significant progress in moving the centralized cases through our system … all centralized applications received the same, even-handed treatment, and the majority f cases centralized were not based on a specific name.”

In other words, the IRS’ so-called “apology” actually is a demand for more funding and agents for the IRS.
