Christie Won't Commit to Discussing Immigration with Mexican President

Though New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has criticized President Barack Obama for his handling of the border crisis, he refused to commit to talking about illegal immigration with Mexico’s president when he travels to Mexico City next month.

According to NJ.com, Christie is scheduled to “lead a three-day trade mission to Mexico beginning on Sept. 3,” and he said, “The main objective for the trip is economics–not immigration.”

When asked if he would discuss the border crisis with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, Christie punted, reportedly saying, “I’m not going to restrict myself on what I’ll be able to talk about when I go to Mexico, but the main intent of my trip to Mexico is the economic visit.”

“Where those conversations will go, I don’t know, but certainly the focus of the trip is economics,” Christie added.

Christie, as NJ.com noted, has blasted Obama previously, stating that he has “done an awful job in securing our border” and “in trying to handle this situation.”
