Alabama Democrat and Senate candidate Doug Jones has previously used open borders talking points that derived from liberal, pro-immigration California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) to denounce President Trump’s plan to construct a border wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Jones, who’s running against populist conservative Judge Roy Moore, in July compared Trump’s border wall to the Berlin Wall, extreme rhetoric that was used just months before by Brown.

“The last wall that was constructed to stop people’s movements between countries was the Berlin Wall,” Jones told the Montgomery Advertiser. “The United States of America is better than that.”

Months before Jones made the statement, Brown used the same open borders language to describe his opposition to building a wall along the southern border in order to stop illegal immigration and the flow of drugs trafficked by Mexican cartels.

“The wall, to me, is ominous. It reminds me too much of the Berlin Wall,” Brown told NBC News’ Chuck Todd at the time.

“There’s a lot of odor here of kind of a strongman,” Brown continued. “I think Americans ought to be very careful when we make radical changes like a 30-foot wall keeping some in and some out.”

Jones has most recently aligned himself with corporate interests and the open borders lobby, calling the border wall “too expensive.”

“I don’t think we need to be spending $20 billion dollars,” Jones said of his opposition to the border wall. “I want to put it on healthcare, I want to get tax cuts for the middle class.”

Jones supposed concerns of the cost of the border wall failed to mention the annual cost of illegal immigration that, while benefitting multinational corporations and the wealthy, upper-class, has been a detriment to America’s working and middle-classes.

As Breitbart News reported, most recent estimates by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), reveal that an illegal alien costs each American taxpayer approximately $8,075, totaling a burden of roughly $116 billion annually.

Moore, on the other hand, not only supports Trump’s border wall, but also supports overall reductions in legal immigration, vowing to support the RAISE Act, which would cut legal immigration down from roughly 1 million new immigrants a year to 500,000 a year, in order to give relief and raise wages for American workers.

“We need to look at the RAISE Act … the Reform of American Immigration for a Strong Economy. We need to look at vetting these people coming into our country,” Moore previously said. “And pick people that are going to do something for our economy. That’s what [Attorney General] Jeff Sessions says.”

The Alabama Senate election takes place on December 12.
