Madonna, known for her catchy pop tunes and choreographed dance routines, took a spill at the Brit Awards Wednesday night that looked anything but planned.

Her first return to the Brits in 20 years, which is known as a U.K. equivalent to the Grammys, the “Queen of Pop” set out to perform her new single “Living for Love” from the album Rebel Heart.

As the song started, the Material Girl fell down a staircase when a backup dancer snagged her cape:

According to Billboard, after missing some key lyrics, Madonna was able to recover and finish the song, but did so with a shaky voice.

While it appears Madonna still has a large fan following in the country, this is her second brush with not-so-good press in the U.K. in as many weeks.

Britain’s Radio 1 announced two weeks ago she was being dropped from the lineup, as she has become “irrelevant” to the station’s younger listeners.

A Radio 1 insider spoke of the decision to drop the aging pop star, now 56, saying, “At the end of the day it’s all about relevance. It’s natural that as an artist gets older their audience goes elsewhere and Radio 1 has to reflect that.”

“The station has a duty to meet the needs of younger listeners. I don’t think the audience is losing sleep that it is not playing Madonna in the same way that it used to.”
