Corpus Christi Man Sentenced to 16 Years for Making Child Porn and Sexual Assault

Michael Paul Torres, 34, was sentenced in a Corpus Christi, Texas, Federal Court for the production of child pornography. Torres, who resides in Corpus Christi, will spend sixteen years in federal prison to be followed by another sixteen years of supervised release. Torres was convicted of the crime in February, 2014.

A copy of the indictment obtained by Breitbart Texas, revealed Torres was alleged to have engaged in sexually explicit conduct with a minor female for the purpose of producing a visual depiction of the sexual conduct and that depiction could or would be transported or transmitted  into interstate of foreign commerce.

A press release from the FBI stated Torres was peported to have sexually assaulted the monor female on October 28, 2013. Torres was later captured and arrested and found to be in possession of a cell phone containing pornographic images he had taken of his victim. Torres later confessed and pled guilty.

The trial was conducted by Senior U.S. District Court Judge Hyden Head. The judge, in determining the sentence to be applied in this case, took into consideration the lasting harm done to his victim and the need to protect the public from future offenses by Torres.

This case, prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney lance Duke, was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
