On July 19, Pikula drove her Mercedes Benz to the Lukeville International Bridge where a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer noticed that she was being overly talkative. The officer sent her to a secondary inspection area where a police dog alerted officers to the smell of drugs.

An x-ray of the vehicle pointed to some anomalies in the car. Authorities pulled out close to six kilograms of cocaine which, according to federal authorities, have an estimated street value of more than $134,000.
