Alleged Texas Cop-Killer in Custody Following Standoff

A Richardson, Texas, police officer has been shot and killed while responding to a call at a North Texas apartment complex. An ambulance transported the wounded officer to a local hospital where he later died from his injury. The gunman is in police custody after a standoff of more than four hours.

The police officer responded to a call for service at an apartment complex in Richardson, Texas — a Dallas area suburban community. Details are unclear at this time, but it appears an unknown gunman shot the officer and one other person, KTXS reported. The ABC affiliate reported the officer received a wound to his neck. The condition of the officer and the other wounded person is not known at this time. The incident began shortly after 7 p.m. (CST).

UPDATE: 11:50 p.m.: Fox4 in Dallas now reports the alleged Richardson cop-killer is now in custody following a series of loud bangs. Blake Hanson reports hearing the suspect yelling unintelligible remarks. No description of the suspect is available at this time.

Fox 4’s Allison Harris reports that a woman inside the apartment complex where the alleged cop-killer barricaded himself said he yelled repeatedly, “I’m sorry.”

UPDATE 11:30 p.m.: As the standoff with the alleged cop-killer in Richardson continues, Fox 4’s Blake Hanson reports yet another round of lout bangs.

UPDATE 11:15 p.m.: CBSDFW reports the officer killed tonight in Richardson is a 27-year-old male. No other information about the officer is being released at this time.

UPDATE 11:00 p.m.:  Fox4 Blake Hanson reports explosions coming from the scene of the barricaded accused cop-killer. 

UPDATE 10:55 p.m.: Tweets from the scene indicate that Richardson police have deployed gas into the apartment where the alleged cop-killer is barricaded.

UPDATE 10:45 p.m.: Fox 4 News reports the Richardson police officer has died from his wounds.

The officer becomes the eleventh officer to die in the line of duty this year, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page. The officer is the seventh to die from gunfire this year.

UPDATE 10:40 p.m.: It appears the shooter remains barricaded at this time. Fox4 reporter Blake Hanson reports from the scene that police are still carrying rifles and taking defensive positions late Wednesday evening. 


Richardson police confirmed that an officer and one civilian had been shot with a Twitter post.

Police briefed reporters at approximately 9:30 p.m.:

Fox 4 News in Dallas also reported the officer’s neck wound.

WFAA reporter Jason Whitely tweeted from the scene that the suspect may be surrounded and that police exchanged gunfire with the alleged shooter.

Police spokesman Kevin Perlich told reporters, “We believe we have him pinned down to a particular location,” Perlich said. “However, he is still randomly firing throughout the evening,” the Dallas Morning News reported.
