A dramatic police helicopter video shows a Texas woman fleeing on foot with a baby in a carrier after she crashed her Mercedes SUV at the conclusion of a high-speed police chase.
Texas Department of Public Safety troopers arrested 29-year-old Catilyn Rodriguez in San Antonio following a crash and an alleged attempted carjacking that occurred after she crashed her Mercedez SUV into another vehicle at the end of a long, high-speed police chase, KSAT ABC12 reported.
A just-released video of the June 15 pursuit shows where Rodriguez allegedly reached speeds of up to 100 miles per hour while her baby was strapped in the back seat. Police say they attempted to stop her because she had outstanding warrants. The incident occurred in the city’s southwest side near Lackland Air Force Base.
The video appears to show the black Mercedez SUV weaving at high speeds through congestion. The chase eventually comes to an end when Rodriguez crashes into the rear end of a truck stopped at a traffic signal.
She jumps out of her SUV and runs around to the passenger side where she pulls her baby from the vehicle. The baby is strapped into a baby carrier. Rodriguez is seen attempting to run away on foot while carrying the infant. She eventually jumps into the passenger seat of a Nissan SUV just as police arrive and block the alleged attempted carjacking.
Police can be seen pointing their weapons at the vehicle while attempting to extract her from the SUV. One officer pulls the driver, a woman, to safety as another officer removes Rodriguez and her baby.
Police separated the woman from her child after placing her under arrest. She is charged with child endangerment, possession of a controlled substance, and evading arrest, the local ABC affiliate reported. Police turned the infant over to Child Protective Services.
