Jessica Vaughan: McCaul Bill Wouldn’t ‘Deter or Send Home a Single Illegal Alien’

Jessica Vaughan, Director of Policy Studies for the Center for Immigration Studies, said that the border security bill sponsored by Representative Michael McCaul (R-TX) would do nothing to “deter or send home a single illegal alien” on Tuesday’s “Laura Ingraham Show.”

“Basically, it would spend about a billion dollars of taxpayer money each year on drones, surveillance, collection of metrics, creation of commissions, and so on, but basically, that money would be spent to maintain the Obama administration’s catch and release policy. There’s not anything in this bill that would deter or send home a single illegal alien. It just talks about figuring out what is actually going on at the border, allowing people to see, not only how many illegal aliens are caught, but how many get through, it doesn’t tell anyone how many get caught, and then released into the country. It adds 27 miles of double fencing in three parts of the border, which is a drop in the bucket. And it has some good provisions, but it really misses the point on what is driving illegal immigration today, which we’ve seen over the last year, is that when people in other countries know that America’s immigration laws are not going to be enforced and that they can come here and get jobs and benefits, and bring their families in and nothing’s going to happen to them, that’s an open invitation to keep coming, and until we address immigration enforcement, until we start enforcing the laws that we have, and returning people who try to come here illegally and returning people who are working here illegally, nothing’s going to change, it’s only going to get worse at greater cost to American taxpayers” she stated.
