Howard Dean on Saving the Democratic Party: ‘Baby Boomers Have to Get Out of the Way’

Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” former Gov. Howard Dean (D-VT), former head of the Democratic National Committee that is exploring the possibility of seeking that post once again, offered his diagnosis of what is ailing the Democratic party and what the party should do to rectify that.

According to Dean, part of that includes the baby boomers getting “out of the way” and looking toward new leadership that is younger.

“Our party and the country as a whole, the baby boomers have to get out of the way,” he said. “That’s my generation. I’m happy to advise. I don’t think that we need to be in the forefront anymore. I love Nancy Pelosi. In my view the most effective Speaker since Tip O’Neill. She’s going to win this because she’s done — she’s raised money. We need somebody from the next generation to be in charge of everything. Not just on the Democratic side but Republican side to empower this very generation that we’re talking about.”
