FS1’s Cowherd on Papa John’s Blaming NFL for Falling Sales: ‘A Completely Bogus Story’

Thursday on Fox Sports 1’s “The Herd,” Colin Cowherd reacted to Papa John’s owner John Schnatter blaming the NFL’s National Anthem protests for a decrease in sales, calling it “a completely bogus story.”

Cowherd noted how the NFL’s most outspoken voice against players kneeling for the National Anthem, Jerry Jones, owns more than 100 Papa John’s stores, and suggested Jones put Papa John’s CEO John Schnatter up to complaining about the protests.

“This is a completely bogus story where an NFL owner, Jerry Jones, isn’t right now in love with Roger Goodell. He has that right, not saying he shouldn’t be vocal,” Cowherd said.

Cowherd also argued Papa John’s is in a fight with competitors to get middle America’s support.

He said of the complaint, “It’s a business move clearly to help Papa John’s regain some market share.”
