Jason Sudeikis to Play Chevy Chase's 'Fletch' in Big-Screen Reboot

One thought amused me while watching the otherwise appalling A Good Old Fashioned Orgy–man, Jason Sudeikis has a real Chevy Chase vibe going for him.

Today, we learned that vibe helped him land the role of ace reporter I.M. Fletcher in Fletch Won, the long-delayed reboot of Chevy Chase’s comic franchise. Chase played the mischievous reporter in both Fletch (1985) and Fletch Lives (1989). The latter underwhelmed, but Chase’s work in the first film launched a thousand gags and cemented his stardom.

“I’ll have a Bloody Mary and a steak sandwich and … a steak sandwich, please.”

If you’re laughing at that, thank Chase, who gave the role its comic sizzle.

The reboot has been talked about for years, with a series of actors discussed to take over the part including Jason Lee. Now, the project appears ready to roll, and The Hollywood Reporter says we can expect a grittier Fletch in line with the Gregory McDonald novels that spawned the franchise.

Sudeikis hasn’t proven he can carry a film on his own despite the success of last year’s sleeper hit We’re the Millers. If ’80s nostalgia rears its head with this reboot, he won’t have to do all the heavy lifting.
