Red Hot Chili Peppers to Headline ‘Feel the Bern’ Benefit Concert for Bernie Sanders

Veteran rockers the Red Hot Chili Peppers are scheduled to headline a benefit concert for Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) on Feb. 5 in Los Angeles.

The band made the announcement on Twitter Wednesday that it would play a “Feel the Bern” concert to raise money for Sanders’ campaign.

Flea, the band’s bassist, wrote on Instagram that his band offered to pay for the venue, but Sanders refused the offer.

“So excited to be playing this concert for Bernie sanders next week. Feels great to support someone I believe in,” he wrote. “The Rhcp offered to give him the money to pay for the theater that night but he wouldn’t accept, he only accepts small donations from individuals.

Flea added: “Every other politician greedily grabs every cent they can get from any scumbag lobbyist. This is a man with integrity. If you can please buy the expensive seats to help out the campaign. Thank you so much. Bernie sanders for president.”

The band will perform at Theatre at Ace Hotel in downtown LA. Tickets for the benefit will range between $40 and $2,700, Rolling Stone reported.

In September, the group was among the 128 Artists for Bernie, a collective of actors, musicians, directors and other prominent creatives who endorsed Sanders over rival Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary. The group includes musicians David Crosby, Bonnie Raitt, Alejandro Escovedo, composer Hans Zimmer, Jackson Browne, and Elvin Bishop.

Flea also posted a message in support for Sanders on his Twitter account following the band’s endorsement, writing, “Bernie Sanders is the only remotely reasonable candidate for President of the United States.”
