EU Negotiator Michel Barnier Met with Anti-Brexit Tony Blair Institute

The European Union’s (EU) chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier last month met with the Tony Blair Institute, an organisation run by the former prime minister and currently pushing to overturn Brexit.

Hardline EU bureaucrat Mr Barnier, a former French foreign minister, met with Mr Blair’s organisation — which has taken millions from the Saudi Arabian government — in Brussels on the 17th of July.

The European Commission made the revelation in a transparency document published online, giving a cryptic description of the nature of the meeting:

“Meeting with the Task Force for the Preparation and Conduct of the Negotiations with the United Kingdom under Article 50 TEU.”

Less than a month before the meeting, Mr Blair had confidently been asserting there was a 40 percent chance of stopping Brexit and blocking the will of the people being implemented.

“At the beginning of the year, I thought we were at 25 percent [chance of stopping Brexit], but now I think it is about 40 percent,” he told a German magazine.

And, just a week after the meeting with Barnier, Mr Blair told the American TV station CNBC confidently what the EU’s reaction to the Prime Minister’s latest Brexit proposals would be.

“I think [Prime Minister Theresa May is] going to find that the deal she wants to do now is a deal that one, won’t pass Europe,” he said.

The same EU transparency document also reveals that the firm Airbus met with Mr Barnier just a couple of days after threatened it might slash jobs in Britain if the government implemented a clean Brexit.

On the same day, MEP and former UKIP leader Nigel Farge described Airbus as a “political project” of the EU that takes funding off the bloc and slammed their intervention as politically motivated and not genuine.

The revelations also come as a new poll reveals support for Mrs May’s Cabinet has plunged to its lowest level amongst Tory Party activists and members after they published their Chequers plan for a ‘Soft Brexit’ tied to EU rules.

The ConservativeHome website poll showed Mrs May herself is on a dismal -47, her lowest ever rating.
