‘Hannibal Lecter’ and Remaining OC Fugitive Captured in SF

The remaining two dangerous fugitives from the three-man Orange County jailbreak that made national headlines just seven days ago have been captured.

Hossein Nayeri, 37, and Jonathan Tieu, 20, were apprehended in San Francisco on Saturday morning. This means that all three inmates that escaped from the Men’s Central Jail in Santa Ana on January 22 have been recaptured.

Fellow escapee Bac Duong, 43, turned himself in on Friday. Duong was originally ordered deported in 1998 to Vietnam, but was later released.

The Orange Country Sheriff’s Department released the following statement:

Escaped inmate Bac Duong was the first to return to custody when he turned himself in on Friday Najuary 29, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. in Santa Ana. This morning, at approximately 8:50 a.m. escaped inmates Tieu and Nayeri were captured by the San Francisco Police Department. A citizen recognized the white van that the escapees were believed to be using and approached San Francisco Police officers who were in the area on an unrelated call. Officers approached the van and Nayeri fled on foot. He was captured after a short foot pursuit. Officers then returned to the van to find escapee Tieu attempting to hid inside. Both Nayeri and Tieu were taken into custody without incident or injury.

In the aftermath of the escape, one Orange County prosecutor called Nayeri “Hannibal Lecter” in light of the escapee’s charges of severe torture and murder. Each of the men have been charged with offenses ranging from assault and attempted murder to murder and torture.

The OC Sheriff’s Department tweeted on Saturday afternoon:

A $200,000 reward had been offered for information leading to the capture of the three men.

Details of the eight-day manhunt will be released Monday morning, according to the OC Sheriff’s Department.
