India Sides With Obama Against Israel

Now that Barack Obama has shown the wide gap between himself and Israel by rejecting Benjamin Netanyahu’s request for a meeting so Obama can appear on David Letterman, other countries are reacting by standing against Israel, too. India has now promised $10 million in aid to the Palestinian Authority and plans to support full Palestinian membership in the United Nations.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met Tuesday in New Delhi with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and stated that India has always made support for the Palestinians a “cornerstone” of its foreign policy.  Desirous of joining the Obama parade of Israel haters who deny history, Singh asserted that India would back the Palestinians taking over East Jerusalem as their capital.

This new statement from India comes after an open acknowledgement for the first time in January of this year that India was doing a great deal of business with Israel, when relations between the countries were at an all-time high. It is no coincidence that as Obama openly distances himself from Israel, other countries nervous about their association with Israel would try to hedge their bets.
