Bulgarian Gun Control Laws Fail to Prevent Assassination Attempt

Over the weekend, Bulgarian politician Ahmed Dogan was giving a speech when an armed man climbed up on the stage, aimed a gun at Dogan’s head, and pulled the trigger.

Fortunately, the gun misfired; reports also indicate that it may have been a gas pistol to begin with–if it had of fired, it would have shot a concussion blast in Dogan’s direction instead of a bullet.

After the gun failed to fire, Dogan hit the shooter’s hand before he could attempt a second shot. Security personnel tackled the shooter as Dogan fled the stage.

According to Radio Bulgaria, to own a gun in the country one must:

1. Pass safety training for gun use

2. Pass an exam

3. Consult a psychologist

4. Register the weapon

These are the very kinds of gun control measures President Obama, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), and other Democrats have been pushing as a means of ending gun crime in America.

I wonder what Mr. Dogan would say about the effectiveness of such measures?
