GOP Senators: No Confirming Brennan Without More Benghazi Information

After Chuck Hagel’s Tuesday confirmation as Secretary of Defense, a number of GOP Senators have vowed not to confirm nominee John Brennan for CIA Director unless the Obama administration turns over more Benghazi documentation.

The White House responded, signaling it would provide Senators with information showing how talking points describing the Benghazi attacks were edited and assembled.

The administration is scheduled to provide similar information to the House Intelligence Committee on Feb. 28.

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) says this type of information goes “a long way to fixing” his concerns, but Sens. Rand Paul (R-KY) and John McCain (R-AZ) say they still have outstanding concerns.

Paul has threatened to filibuster the confirmation unless Brennan addresses whether “he believes the president is authorized to use lethal force, such as a drone strike, against an American citizen in the U.S.”

Paul is joined by a number of Senate Democrats in his concern over drone usage.
