German Newspaper: Obama Authorized Spying on Merkel in 2010

According to German newspaper Bild am Sonntag, President Obama personally authorized the monitoring of German chancellor Angela Merkel three years ago. In 2010, according to the newspaper, National Security Agency head General Keith Alexander informed Obama that Merkel was being monitored.

“Obama did not stop the action at that time but allowed it to continue,” a source told the paper. The paper reported that the monitoring went all the way back to 2002, three years before Merkel assumed power.
