The Associated Press reports that the Samiullah Afridi, the attorney representing  Dr. Shakil Afridi, who helped the U.S. track down Osama bin Laden, has been shot and killed. Two Taliban terrorist groups claimed responsibility for his death.

Dr. Afridi had been administering a polio vaccination program in the province of Peshawar in northwestern Pakistan when the CIA allegedly contacted him and used his house visits to conform bin Laden’s location. Dr. Afridi was arrested shortly thereafter and tried in a secret tribal proceeding in use since the days of British colonial rule. After international news coverage, including reporting by Breitbart News and CNN, his 33-year sentence was overturned, and he awaits a new trial.

Breitbart News spoke exclusively to Dr. Afridi’s legal team in 2013. Advocates for the jailed physician have accused the Obama administration of neglecting his case and allowing him to be targeted and jailed rather than brought to the U.S.
