On Friday, the Planned Parenthood Action Fund took a stand against serial killer and vicious abortionist Kermit Gosnell – by complaining about restrictions on abortion availability. After remaining silent on Gosnell for days, the Planned Parenthood Action Fund tweeted, “#Gosnell case is appalling. He ran a criminal enterprise, not a health facility, & should be punished to full extent bit.ly/ZRyssI.”
So what is that link? It isn’t to a story about Gosnell’s evil acts at all. It’s a link to an op-ed by Dayle Steinberg, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Southeastern Pennsylvania, from 2011. The title: “Women’s right facing threats.” The piece opens with a paragraph about Roe v. Wade. Its only mention of Gosnell was to condemn him for breaking the law. The piece then complained about how the Gosnell case could lead to greater restrictions on Gosnell’s actual evil: brutal abortions of living babies, even outside the mother’s body. Here’s the piece’s general take on Gosnell:
The news of the alleged practices at Gosnell’s clinic prompted calls for stronger regulations of abortion services …. These restrictions have caused some women to delay abortion procedures, often into the second trimester, where it becomes both a higher medical risk and more expensive. No new regulations can stop a physician who has decided to disregard the law.
An abortionist murders perhaps hundreds of babies, and Planned Parenthood’s response is to throw up its hands and blame pro-life forces for later-term abortions. No wonder the Gosnell case is so troubling for the pro-abortion left: they understand at root level that the case isn’t about health code violations or even patient safety. It’s about the moral evil of abortion, and they’re now stuck explaining to the American people why what Gosnell did outside the womb should be celebrated if done inside the womb.
