Former State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland, who is known for helping craft the Benghazi scandal talking points, has been confirmed as chief U.S. envoy for Europe. She sailed through a voice vote confirmation without any debate from Senate Republican leadership. The vote took place on September 12, the day after the one-year anniversary of the Benghazi terrorist attack.
According to the congressional record, Nuland’s nomination for a promotion to become the U.S. State Department’s Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian affairs passed the Senate without Republican demand for a roll call vote.
Breitbart News reported previously that Nuland came under fire for her role in asking “that references to al Qaeda and previous CIA warnings about threats posed to U.S. diplomats in Libya be scrubbed from the document” of Benghazi scandal talking points last year compiled after the Obama administration inaccurately blamed a YouTube video for the attack that claimed four American lives.
