Clarence Thomas: 'Northern Liberal Elites' Treated Me Worse Than Southerners

On February 11, Associate Justice Clarence Thomas told students at Palm Beach Atlantic University that “northern liberal elites” did and said worse things to him than did citizens of Savannah, Georgia during the heyday of segregation.

According to Yahoo, Thomas observed that the focus on race in the United States has actually become heightened instead of lessened through the years: “My sadness is that we are probably today more race-conscious than I was in the 1960s when I went to school.”

He then spoke about how the sting of racism has touched him far more deeply in the North than it did in the South: 

The worst I have been treated was by northern liberal elites. The absolute worst I have ever been treated, the worst things that have been done to me, the worst things that have been said about me, [were] by northern liberal elites, not by the people of Savannah, Georgia.
