Carney Assures Press Corps Obama Won't Push Gun Control at Ft. Hood Memorial

On April 8th, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney assured the press corps that Obama “will not focus on gun control in his remarks at [the] Fort Hood memorial service” on April 9th.

According to The Hill, Carney made it clear that Obama’s “views on the need to take common sense steps that address the challenge and problem of gun violence” have not changed. He also said Obama still feels “extreme disappointment” over the failure to pass Senator Joe Manchin’s (D-WV) gun control bill in the spring of 2013.

Nonetheless, Carney said, Obama will focus “on the families of those who were lost and those who were lost themselves” while at Fort Hood.

Following the memorial, Obama will attend a Democrat fundraiser with Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). Tickets range from “$16,200 per person to $64,800 for a couple.”
